I’m Finally Revealing My Creativity Secret Recipe & It’s Pinterest

It’s time to lay all the cards on the table.

Pinterest is my favorite social media platform nowadays. Yes, I said it.

More than YouTube. More than Instagram. More than — I’m going there — TikTok.

There’s so much more to this platform than nail designs, dinner recipes and tattoo ideas — Pinterest is a gold mine of inspiration for people like me who write every single day (professionally and personally) and could use a shot of inspiration from time to time to get the creative juices flowing.

Inspiration beyond Pins and boards

While the most obvious attractive feature of the application is discovering Pins you love and saving them to boards that keep your inspirations organized, there are 2 other ways to get inspired.

A Regular Stream of Top Trends

If your location is in the United States, you have access to a tab called “Explore”.

This feature is a changing list of “Today’s Top Trends” and it looks like this 👇

Heads Up: We all have our own sources of inspiration and this happens to be mine. If it sparks creativity in your writing, design or any project, I’m happy to have shared something valuable with you today.

For me, watching other people’s work fuels creativity.

Imagine your brain is a factory, always working to produce innovative ideas. Getting inspiration from others’ work is like hiring a new skilled worker or introducing new tools to help the machinery continue to churn out good ideas. It’s not about plagiarizing or copying, but rather giving your brain the boost it needs to manufacture creativity.

Whether you’re into fashion, home decor, DIY projects or travel, this “Explore” feature offers a mix of trending Pins spanning a variety of categories. Explore Pins that are outside of your usual interests and voilà! You’re opening your mind up to new concepts, styles and perspectives.

Predictions, Predictions: What Trends Will the Year Hold?

In addition to those everyday trends I’ve been tuned into all year long, there’s another secret (to some, maybe not-so-secret) recipe that I keep an eye out for.

It’s their yearly trends report: Pinterest Predicts.

And, my oh my — how they knocked it out of the park this year, just in time for 2024.

I mean, look at those visuals!

And the more I examine this year’s Pinterest Predicts, the deeper I go, the better it gets! All of those catchy one-liners are just as good as the designs!

This is my personal favorite.

Head to Glow! As in, head to toe but with a glow-up twist? I need to meet the writer who came up with that.

8 out of 10 trends on Pinterest Predicts have come true three years in a row.

Pinterest Predicts is like having a crystal ball for creative minds, especially for writers, marketers and creatives everywhere. Why wouldn’t you want to know what your audience is excited about before it happens?

As a writer, it provides me with a treasure trove of story ideas. To see what topics are buzzing and weave those trends into your narratives. Use this knowledge to tailor your campaigns.

Even Pinterest refers to these Predicts as the ‘cheat sheet’ for tomorrow’s trends.

Final Thoughts

In a world of information overload, content creation and ChatGPT-generated copies, creative and quality human writing is like a breath of fresh air after being cocooned indoors for a week straight.

It is the same reason I like to read the works of my favorite writers across the Internet. It is the same reason I like to pick up a fictional fantasy novel.

It finally gets the machines in my mental factory working again.
